Holiday Trivia: Did You Know These Fluids?
Dec 12, 2018
It’s the season of being holly jolly and whether you’re ready or not, the season is here and there’s no turning back. This week we want to share with you a few things about your vehicle that you should know. More specifically, fluids that your vehicle needs in order to survive. No worries – I wasn’t 100 percent sure what all of these fluids did and how important they were to my vehicle’s health. But that’s what I am here for – to share my findings with you! So, sit back, buckle up, and let’s fill up!
Oil – in order for your engine to keep moving parts lubricated, your vehicle needs oil. Without engine oil, you could be looking at a hefty repair bill and replacing your engine. You can choose to check the oil yourself or leave it to a professional which we recommend if you’re new under the hood.
Radiator Fluid – this fluid goes in your radiator and keeps your engine from overheating (which is important). If you run low or out, you can overheat your engine, again leaving you with a hefty repair bill. This is better left to the professionals but if you choose to do it yourself, NEVER open the tank while the engine is running or hot.
Power Steering Fluid – much like your engine, your power steering system needs to stay lubricated at all times and if it doesn’t you’ll lose control of your steering and vehicle’s wheels. If this fluid is low, it’s easy to fill up, just ready your owner’s manual.
Brake Fluid – we’re always on the go – am I right? Well, sometimes we like to come to a full and complete stop and that’s what your brake fluid will do. So, we’re sure you know why this one is important. Your vehicle’s owner’s manual will have directions how to add. And make sure you’re taking a look at the color too. If it’s dark – have a mechanic replace ASAP.
Windshield Fluid – much like braking, we like to see when we’re driving, at least I hope so! Your windshield washer fluid reservoir should always be filled and ready to go. In winter months, fill up with wiper fluid designed for cold temperatures! This one is an easy fill-up, just pop open the hood and locate the reservoir. Fill until full!
