One of the most important aspects of being a car dealership is knowing that we are selling safe, reliable vehicles to our customers. Whether it’s the first time you are driving off our lot in your new Ford or it’s been a few years since we’ve seen you – we want you and your family to stay safe on the roadway. But how can you enhance the safety of your children? That is what we are here for, to share that knowledge with you. This week we have some very important tips that will enhance the safety of your children when you’re traveling and will give you better peace of mind knowing you did your part as a parent and went the extra mile to keep your child safe. Check out these helpful tips below and let us know of any tips that you may have of your own!

First and foremost, always ready owner’s manuals when it comes to car seats and booster seats. Your vehicle’s manual, as well as the seat’s manual, will give you important information on installation that is vital in keeping your child safe.

  • Choose the correct car seat for your child’s height, weight, and age. Your child’s doctor can give you further insight into this and can help guide you which seat will be best.
  • Always choose a rear-facing seat until your doctor tells you otherwise. Rear-facing is safest for children especially those under two years of age.
  • Be sure to measure your back seat before purchasing a car seat. Large based car seats may not fully fit properly if you have a smaller vehicle.
  • The seatbelt path should be easily accessible once you install the car seat; in addition, the belt should be properly fastened and secured.
  • Car seats with a two-piece retainer clip are a great choice. These are more difficult for children to escape and will be kept fastened in the event of a collision.
  • Harness adjusters should always be readily available and are extremely important to have.
  • Choose a car seat that is easy to clean. Messes within the seat can hinder your child from properly buckling in and will lead to a smelly car seat.
  • When your child is ready for a booster seat, choose a high back seat. This will keep your child protected better than non high back seats in the event of a collision.

Did you know that nearly 2,000 children under the age of 14 were killed due to motor vehicle crashes in 2005?* Did you also know that in that same year, 230,000 children were injured in motor vehicle crashes?* That’s too many, especially if we can further the safety of our children when they are in the vehicle with us.

For questions, comments or concerns about your child’s car seat, stop by and our team will be more than happy to help answer any questions or discuss your concerns. Don’t wait, choose a vehicle that will go that extra mile to protect your family; choose Ford! For additional information, read your vehicle owner’s manual.
